Fleabag Is Set To Return To The Big Screen Around The World

Phoebe Waller-Bridge's "gloriously disruptive" play that evolved into a massively popular TV show will hit cinemas with a live filmed performance.

For Fleabag fans the world around, the most upsetting thing about the TV show was the realization that they might never see the original stage performance. What started as a one-woman show, that elicited laudatory five-star reviews, became a definitive series full of pathos, charm, and plenty of sex. But there's hope on the horizon for fans of the show. Fleabag will return to cinemas around the globe this summer.

The screening brings the work back to the big screen after a "box-office record-breaking run in cinemas in 2019". It comes as part of the National Theatre's NTL Live series of broadcasts, which allows audiences to experience the thrill of live theatre through the convenience of cinema screenings. The live performance, which was captured on the West End in 2019, will be screened in cinemas worldwide from June 15 onwards.

Fleabag started out as an Edinburgh Fringe Festival performance, back in 2013. At the time, Waller-Bridge won a Fringe First award for the play. The cinematic screenings of Fleabag will present a live recorded performance from 2019. The plot covers the following:

"Fleabag may seem oversexed, emotionally unfiltered and self-obsessed, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. With family and friendships under strain and a guinea pig café struggling to keep afloat, Fleabag suddenly finds herself with nothing to lose."

The stage play went on to inspire a massive, multi-award-winning two-season TV series, starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Sian Clifford, Oliva Colman, and Andrew Scott. The play itself, however, only encompasses the storyline of the first season.
